For my last newsletter article of 2024, I thought I’d list the five most popular articles I sent out in this newsletter over the past year.
To determine the top five, I removed the most popular, which was an article about my wife Ann Marie’s pituitary tumor. Although that article garnered the most views of any I had written, it wasn’t photography-related, so I removed it from consideration. I also removed stuff I sent out about things I’m selling and projects I’ve been doing.
Typically, the articles are archived after 15 days, when only paid subscribers can read them. I removed that limitation so everybody can read any article I’ve written over the past year. I’ll reinstate that paid-only perk next week—until then, you can read everything I’ve written in 2024 by clicking below:

On Photography
Published on Dec 14
This is one of my more recent articles, but it had a strong showing right out of the gate, suggesting that Susan Sontag’s book On Photography* is still controversial years after its publication.
URBEX Photography
Published on Feb 17
My article on Urban Exploration Photography (URBEX) comes in fourth place, which shouldn’t be surprising because URBEX Photography is one of the more popular types of photography today.
Some Things I Learned
Published on Feb 28
In this article, I discuss some things I learned from Joel Meyerowitz's book Where I Find Myself: A Lifetime Retrospective*. Those of you who have read my newsletter for a while know that I’m a huge collector of books on photography. When I get a new book, I try not to stare blankly at the images but instead attempt to learn from each photograph. I think to myself, what did the photographer have in mind? Why did they frame it that way? How’d they use the light to their advantage for this scene? In this article, I discuss three things I learned from Joel Meyerowitz just by reading his book.
Exploring Color Theory in Photography
Published on Aug 1
In this article, I discuss the basics of color theory and how one can evoke emotions with color.
My Biggest Mistakes in Photography
Published on Mar 18
In my top article of the year, I discuss some of the mistakes I’ve made in Photography. Most notably, I allowed myself to get too caught up in the technical aspects of the craft, which caused me to lose the creative verve. I mention several other things, including gear, camera settings, underselling myself, and worrying about other people's thoughts.
That’s it for 2024. I hope everybody has a great New Year. If you go out, stay safe. If you stay home, stay happy. Thank you all for subscribing, and I hope you all have a great 2025!
